Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment Announce a Two Picture Deal With Mike Myers
UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., Aug. /PRNewswire/ -- Universal Pictures and Imagine
Entertainment have signed a two picture deal with Mike Myers ("Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me"), it was announced today by Stacey Snider and Brian Mulligan, co-chairmen of Universal Pictures.
The first project will be "Sprockets," based on Myers' script, which comes from his popular "Saturday Night Live" sketch about Dieter Sprocket, a nihilistic German
talk show host. Myers will develop the script for the second project as well.
Myers, whose current hit "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me" has to date grossed more
than $199 million, has also starred in the original hit "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery," which spawned the hugely-successful sequel.
In making the announcement,
Ms. Snider and Mr. Mulligan said, "Mike Myers is undoubtedly one of the hottest comedians working today, and we are thrilled to have him lined up for two pictures at the studio. In addition, we
are delighted to be collaborating with Imagine Entertainment and Brian Grazer on yet another project."
Universal Pictures' and Imagine Entertainment's "Bowfinger," which
opens August 13th, stars Eddie Murphy and Steve Martin, who are teamed up for the very first time in the hilarious comedy written by Steve Martin, produced by Grazer and directed by Frank Oz ("In &
Out"). Forthcoming collaborations between Universal and Imagine include "Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas," starring Jim Carrey for director Ron Howard, which is scheduled to be
released in 2000.
