"NUEVAS
VOCES DE AMERICA" PARTICIPANTS PAY TRIBUTE TO SELENA
MIAMI, Fla. -–
March 23, 2005 -– This coming Sunday, March 27, the 12 remaining
contestants of music reality show "Nuevas Voces de America"
(New Voices of America) will pay tribute to late Tejano singer,
Selena, commemorating the 10th anniversary of the superstar's
death. In addition, participants will perform her greatest
hits in front of singer/songwriter Alvaro Torres, who will
join the show as guest judge. Torres did an unforgettable
duet with Selena titled "Buenos Amigos" (Good Friends). "Nuevas
Voces de America" airs every Sunday at 8 p.m. (7/c) on Telemundo.
The fate of Dominican
William Jimenez (Manhattan, NY) and Zuri Juarbe (Toa Baja,
PR) will be revealed when the results of last week's audience
votes are announced, and one of these two contestants is eliminated.
During last Sunday's
show, participants received unprecedented words of encouragement
from top dignitaries of their home countries. President of
the Dominican Republic, Dr. Leonel Fernandez; Mexico's First
Lady, Marta Sahagun de Fox, and Governor of Puerto Rico, Anibal
Acevedo Vila, addressed these up-and-coming artists with a
personal message for all, and in particular those representing
their countries.
The evening did
not stop there; soon after, finalists were led to the home
of Emilio and Gloria Estefan who opened up their doors for
an informal and intimate reception in their honor. In addition,
viewers traveled to the small town of Ponce, Puerto Rico,
hometown of participant Oscar Rivera, to witness a spectacular
rendition of support by family, friends and neighbors, including
watching the show from a TV placed on the roof in order to
advocate for their local hero.
Finally, after
receiving the lowest scores, Texas participants Gerardo Arturo
Lopez of Eagle Pass, and Claudia Lopez of Del Rio, received
the hard news: only Gerardo would remain in the competition.
This Sunday, he will get a surprise video greeting from his
family who were all interviewed in Eagle Pass.
